VIDEO: AG Moody Kicks Off National Consumer Protection Week Highlighting More Than Half a Billion Dollars in Recoveries
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody is kicking off National Consumer Protection Week in Florida by highlighting the more than half a billion dollars secured fighting for Floridians. Attorney General Moody’s Consumer Protection Division, an expert team of attorneys and investigators, took legal action to stop hundreds of scams and disreputable organizations violating Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. In recognition of National Consumer Protection Week, Attorney General Moody will be announcing multistate consumer protection actions and releasing new resources designed to help consumers avoid falling victim to scams.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “My office works hard to combat scammers who attempt to take advantage of Floridians. We have seen incredible success—with more than half a billion dollars recovered since 2019—but we are not stopping there. This National Consumer Protection Week, we will be announcing multistate actions and releasing new resources to better prepare Floridians and help keep consumers protected from scammers.”
Since 2019, the Consumer Protection Division has secured more than $565 million in recoveries, including restitution and debt relief. The Consumer Protection Division also stopped more than 300 businesses from violating Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act—including schemes involving dishonest movers, pool builders, robocallers and more.
In recognition of National Consumer Protection Week, over the next few days Attorney General Moody will:
- Announce several multistate actions to protect Floridians and consumers nationwide;
- Highlight the success of Florida's Lemon Law Arbitration Unit on behalf of consumers who purchase defective new or leased vehicles;
- Warn about government imposter schemes on National Slam the Scam Day; and
- Release a new Scams at a Glance resource focused on protecting consumers from one of the top scams targeting Floridians.
