Back the blue alert

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody today surprised an Orlando woman training to become a dispatcher with a Back the Blue Award for her extraordinary support of law enforcement. Tracy Ganci is well-known throughout the Central Florida law enforcement community for supporting local law enforcement. Prior to training with the Orlando Police Department to become a police dispatcher, Ganci initiated a campaign called Random Acts of Back the Blue. The campaign aims to thank law enforcement officers for their service and show appreciation.

Ganci makes handmade gifts for officers, such as key chains, and snack bags, and delivers them to substations or finds local officers out and about on their routes. Ganci has enlisted her teenage daughter to assist in making the gifts and help with deliveries to instill appreciation for law enforcement at a young age. This past Christmas, Ganci and her daughter drove around Central Florida in search of officers and deputies in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties to give candy and handmade Christmas tree ornaments. Accompanied with each gift is a note that says, “Thank you for your service, you are appreciated.” In addition to spending time making gifts for law enforcement, Ganci also uses social media to educate people about the sacrifices made by all Central Florida law enforcement officers, especially the sacrifices made during the holidays.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “This world needs more people like Tracy Ganci—her unwavering support for law enforcement is exactly what my office’s Back the Blue Award aims to commend. It was an honor to surprise her today and learn more about her motivation to instill appreciation for local law enforcement. I hope Tracy encourages others to do more for our law enforcement officers and I can’t think of a better person to Back the Blue as a police dispatcher.”

Kissimmee Chief of Police Jeffrey O’Dell nominated Ganci for the Back the Blue Award. Ganci is currently training to become a police dispatcher, and Attorney General Moody surprised Ganci with the Back the Blue Award at a dispatcher training in Orlando.
