TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the appointment of Bradley R. McVay as Florida's Statewide Prosecutor. McVay brings in legal experience from a career spanning election integrity, civil litigation, and criminal prosecution.

"Brad is a proven constitutional conservative, experienced litigator, and criminal prosecutor who has defended Florida's laws and elections in the courtroom and beyond," said Attorney General James Uthmeier. "He understands the stakes and shares our commitment to law and order. I have full confidence he will lead the Office of Statewide Prosecution with strength and integrity."

"I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Florida’s Statewide Prosecutor,” said Statewide Prosecutor Brad McVay. "I very much appreciate the trust and confidence the Attorney General has placed in me. I promise to work around the clock on behalf of Florida to ensure justice is served.”

Mr. McVay most recently served as Deputy Secretary of State for Legal Affairs and Election Integrity. In that role, he led legal strategy and oversight for the entire Department, managed the Office of Election Crimes and Security, and served as General Counsel to the Secretaries of State for multiple election cycles. He successfully defended Florida's election laws in state and federal courts, including before the U.S. Supreme Court.

His prior legal experience spans the Department of Management Services, private litigation practice, and criminal prosecution in the Eighth Judicial Circuit. He is a member of the Republican National Lawyers Association and the Federalist Society, and Governor DeSantis recently appointed him to the First District Court of Appeal Judiciary Nominating Commission.

A cum laude graduate of Florida State University College of Law, McVay has also published legal scholarship on Florida election law and speaks regularly at statewide election law and criminal justice conferences.

The Attorney General would like to thank Deputy Statewide Prosecutor Julie Chaikin for her leadership during the selection and appointment process. Her experience proved to be an invaluable asset.

Brad McVay will be sworn in as the Statewide Prosecutor on August 18, 2025.

About the Office of Statewide Prosecution:

The Florida Constitution directs the Attorney General's Office of Statewide Prosecution to prosecute crimes that impact two or more judicial circuits in the State of Florida. Working regularly with state and federal counterparts, the office focuses on complex, often large-scale, organized criminal activity. The Office of Statewide Prosecution is authorized to act throughout Florida. It works closely with law enforcement and State Attorneys to coordinate the prosecutions of multi-circuit violations of State law.

The Attorney General appoints the Statewide Prosecutor, who serves a four-year term.
