Advocate of the Year Award

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody today presented Seniors vs. Crime volunteer Bryan Lifsey the 2018-2019 Advocate of the Year Award for working to protect seniors from scams. Lifsey is one of five Seniors vs. Crime volunteer sleuths nominated for the award. These Super Senior Sleuths are taking extraordinary steps to assist consumers through Attorney General Moody’s Seniors vs. Crime Project.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “I am thrilled to present our inaugural Senior Sleuth Advocate of the Year Award to Bryan Lifsey. Bryan volunteers his time with our Seniors vs. Crime Program to help seniors and stop scams targeting older Floridians at our regional office in The Villages. Florida is lucky to have such dedicated volunteers like Bryan, our other Super Senior Sleuths and every volunteer who gives their time and talents to help our office protect vulnerable Floridians.”

Lifsey continues to serve as a Senior Sleuth, volunteering with Seniors vs. Crime since 2006. Lifsey manages The Villages office and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. For more about Lifsey, click here.

Lifsey is one of five volunteers recognized today as a Super Senior Sleuth. Attorney General Moody presented each of these remarkable volunteers an award, and all were nominees for 2018-2019 Advocate of the Year Award. The additional Super Senior Sleuth honored today are:
  • Alan Campbell, who volunteers at the Seniors vs. Crime North Miami Beach office;
  • Chuck Sheehan, who volunteers at the Seniors vs. Crime Fernandina Beach office;
  • Jay Todras, who volunteers at the Seniors vs. Crime west Polk County office; and
  • Kim Mitchell, who volunteers at the Seniors vs. Crime Tallahassee office.
According to the Seniors vs. Crime Annual Report, Senior Sleuths worked more than 2,000 cases of reported fraud last year, resulting in $1,146,057 in recoveries. The volunteers also provide support to the Attorney General’s new Senior Protection Team.

The awards ceremony followed Attorney General Moody’s Senior Scam Stopper Workshop in The Villages, where Florida seniors learned about fighting fraud and identifying scams. To learn more about senior fraud and the Florida Attorney General’s Seniors vs. Crime project, click here.
