TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody today, while participating in a Teach a Girl to Lead program in Bay County, announced the appointment of Anne Corcoran to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. Corcoran is a distinguished corporate attorney and is active in charitable and community activities—founding a liberal arts charter school where she continues to provide pro bono legal and board services. The FCSW is a non-partisan group with a focus on raising awareness and celebrating the contributions and successes of all Floridians. Additionally, the FCSW provides a collaborative platform for those seeking information on issues that affect women, girls and their families in Florida.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “I am proud to appoint Anne Corcoran to this commission. Anne will bring a strong perspective to the group, from both the legal and educational standpoint. Not only is her extensive charitable and community service work inspiring, but her experience as a mother balancing a career and a family will be an asset to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. Congratulations, Anne.”

Corcoran has more than 20 years’ experience in both civil and criminal litigation, including working as an assistant state attorney and serving on the Judicial Nominating Commission for both the First and Fifth Judicial Circuits. Corcoran earned a law degree with high honors from Florida State University College of Law, and interned at the Florida Supreme Court and in the Florida Legislature.

Additionally, the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools gave Corcoran the Champion Charter School Pioneer Award. Corcoran has also received the CAMWS Award for Special Service.

The FCSW is a nonpartisan board, statutorily created in 1991, consisting of 22 appointed members and is administratively housed in the Office of the Attorney General. FCSW’s mandate is to study and make recommendations to the Governor, Cabinet and legislature on issues affecting women in Florida.

Attorney General made this announcement while visiting the Teach a Girl to Lead program at Parker Elementary School. TAGL is a program created to inspire girls and young women to follow in the footsteps of women leaders, past and present. Attorney General Moody read Grace Goes to Washington to the students and led a short discussion on the book.
