AG Moody Enlists Businesses Against HT Before Super Bowl

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody today met with local business leaders and industry professionals at the Port of Miami to gather support in ongoing efforts to prevent human trafficking ahead of Super Bowl LIV. The championship game is only nine days away and will be played in Miami this year. With the influx of thousands of visitors to Florida for this event, comes the opportunity for traffickers to create a temporary, illegal market for human trafficking. Educating business owners and their employees about how to spot and report human trafficking will help law enforcement respond quickly to dangerous situations and enhance the safety of Floridians and out-of-state guests.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Now, more than ever, it is important that we enlist more partners in our fight to end human trafficking. Super Bowl LIV is only nine days away, and we are bolstering our efforts to combat this atrocious crime leading up to this worldwide event. We will need everyone’s help in fighting this evil, which is why I am busy working with local business leaders and industry professionals to have more eyes and ears on the ground to help report suspicious situations.”
During the week of Super Bowl LIII last year, law enforcement reportedly arrested more than 160 people on human trafficking charges. Earlier this week, Attorney General Moody held an anti-human trafficking meeting with business leaders ahead of this weekend’s Pro Bowl. The Attorney General is also partnering with leaders in the trucking, rideshare and hotel industries. Recent partnerships include:
- Attorney General Moody and Uber joined together for prevention education events ahead of the 2020 Super Bowl.
- Attorney General Moody, with Truckers Against Trafficking and the Florida Trucking Association, hosted a training seminar for truck drivers to spot and stop human trafficking; and
- Attorney General Moody joined the hotel industry in Miami for a No Room for Trafficking campaign event, that included an anti-human trafficking training for hotel employees to learn the signs of trafficking and how to report suspicious activity.
