HT Awareness

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody is asking the public to learn how to spot human trafficking ahead of the upcoming National Football League’s Pro Bowl in Orlando that takes place this Sunday and next week’s Super Bowl in Miami. The Pro Bowl is the NFL’s annual all-star game featuring the best professional football players in the world. With the massive influx of people that will be visiting Florida to attend both major events, the Attorney General hopes the public can help law enforcement spot suspicious activity to help stop human trafficking.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “With the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors, it is imperative that people remain vigilant to help law enforcement spot and stop human trafficking. During the week of last year’s Super Bowl in Atlanta, 160 people were arrested on charges related to human trafficking. That is why we are working diligently to raise awareness and train as many people as possible to be our eyes and ears during the festivities.”

Attorney General Moody encourages everyone, especially those who plan on visiting Florida for either one or both events, to learn how to spot human trafficking. Some of the signs of human trafficking include:
    • Physical injuries, such as burns, branding, disorientation, scars, tattoos, etc.;
    • Individuals displaying fear, anxiousness, paranoia or a reluctancy to discuss injuries;
    • Speaking as if coached or having someone else speak for them; and
    • Suffering from drug addiction, infections or sleep deprivation.
To learn more about how to identify and report human trafficking, visit YouCanStopHT.com. Anyone who suspects or witnesses an occurrence of human trafficking should contact local law enforcement or call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1(888) 373-7888.
