Attorney General James Uthmeier Charges Registered Child Sexual Predator with Voter Fraud
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution is charging Gerald Kight, a convicted felon and registered sexual offender, with voter fraud. Kight is charged with multiple counts of unqualified elector knowingly voting in the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary, 2024 Primary Election, and the 2024 General Election in Putnam County.
“We must protect the sanctity and integrity of our republican form of government,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “This convicted felon, who is also a registered child sex offender, attempted multiple times to register to vote. After acknowledging twice that he wasn’t eligible, he lied on a subsequent voter registration application to participate in the 2024 election cycle unlawfully. Our Statewide Prosecutors will ensure he is held accountable. I would like to thank Secretary Cord Byrd and Brad McVey for their dedication to Florida’s election integrity efforts.”
In November 2024, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement received a complaint about Kight from the Florida Department of State, Office of Election Crimes and Security. According to the complaint, Kight knowingly participated in the three 2024 elections as a convicted felon without his rights restored. Kight was convicted in 1999 of attempted lewd or lascivious assault upon a child in St. Johns County. As of March 2025, Kight was still registered as a sex offender.
According to the investigation, since 2022, Kight attempted to register to vote at least twice, each time receiving notice that he was not eligible to vote. Kight acknowledged both these notices and informed authorities that they were correct. However, Kight still falsely filled out a voter registration form in 2023 and voted in the 2024 elections.
Kight is charged with three counts of unqualified elector willfully voting and one count of false affirmation in connection with voting or elections, all third-degree felonies.
Assistant Statewide Prosecutor Sophia Birriel-Sanchez will prosecute this case in Florida's Seventh Judicial Circuit.
