TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—As millions of Americans prepare for Super Bowl Sunday festivities, Attorney General Ashley Moody is urging all fans to celebrate responsibly and to never drink and drive. From 2012 to 2021, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported nearly 11,000 Americans lost their lives each year to impaired driving. Alcohol-related fatal crashes typically increase during the Super Bowl.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Millions of Americans are getting ready to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday! It is easy to get carried away during the final NFL game of the season, but it is important to remember to celebrate safely. I’m urging Floridians to never drink and drive.”

The Super Bowl is traditionally the most watched television event of the year, with last year’s championship game being one of the most watched programs of all time. Many will attend watch parties and will be on Florida roadways.

Attorney General Moody offers the following safety tips:

  • Establish a designated driver beforehand;
  • Use ride-share services or call a cab instead of drinking and driving;
  • Use caution on the roadways and be vigilant of dangerous driving; and
  • Fasten seatbelts when driving or riding in a vehicle.

The NHTSA reports that alcohol, marijuana and other drugs can impair the ability to drive because of slowed coordination, judgment and reaction times. By celebrating responsibly and not driving impaired, Floridians can keep the roads safer during Super Bowl LVIII.

More information and tips can be found by visiting the Mothers Against Drunk Driving website. MADD is an organization with a vision of a future where there are no more victims of drunk or drugged driving accidents. To learn more, click here.
