TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that Ramirez Bradwell, 37, of Apopka, was arrested on multiple felony charges relating to fentanyl trafficking and is held on pre-trial detention with no bond.

“This trafficker is an example of why we are calling for reform of Florida’s insanity defense and mental competency laws,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “Repeat offenders who show a complete disregard for human life should not be able to escape accountability. Our office will fight to get this life-long criminal in front of a jury.”

Investigators determined that Bradwell has been trafficking narcotics across the state for years. Once aware of the investigation, Bradwell sent death threats to his co-conspirators.

Bradwell is charged with Trafficking in Fentanyl (over 28 grams), Conspiracy to Traffic in Fentanyl (over 28 grams), Sale of Fentanyl, and Criminal Use of a Two-Way Communication Device.

Bradwell has an extensive and violent arrest history, including armed robbery, drug trafficking, aggravated assault, burglary, narcotics sales, drug possession, possession of illegal firearms, driving under the influence, and fleeing and eluding, Even though he has been in prison twice, most of his subsequent arrests have resulted in a finding of incompetency to stand trial, leading him to be released from custody.

If convicted, Bradwell faces a maximum of 80 years in the Department of Corrections and a 25-year mandatory minimum on both counts one and two.

At a pretrial detention hearing, the Office of Statewide Prosecution’s motion to hold Bradwell on no bond was granted. This case will be tried in Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit by Chief Assistant Statewide Prosecutor Brian Fernandes.
