Attorney General Bondi Kicks-Off 2011 Law Enforcement Torch Run
TALLAHASSEE, FLA – Today Attorney General Pam Bondi kicked-off the 2011 Law Enforcement Torch Run, benefiting the Special Olympics. Attorney General Bondi was joined by Governor Rick Scott, Senate President Mike Haridopolos, more than 300 law enforcement officers, and supporters from across the state. The correctional community will carry the “Flame of Hope” on a 1,500-mile journey throughout Florida for the 29th year of this tradition.
“I am excited to host today’s event alongside my family, including my niece, Emma, who has Down syndrome,” said Attorney General Bondi. “I know firsthand the wonderful work Special Olympics Florida and our law enforcement community do on behalf of our Special Olympics athletes, and I want to thank each of them for their commitment and service. I encourage everyone to get involved in this event as an athlete, coach, volunteer or in another way.”
Three thousand members of the law enforcement community will carry the torch to the opening ceremonies at the Annual Florida State Summer Games. This year’s games will take place May 13, 2011 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista. In Florida, more than 16,000 athletes participate in Special Olympics activities throughout our state.
