Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Statement on the Passage of the Florida Information Protection Act by the House Judiciary Committee
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— Today Attorney General Pam Bondi issued the following statement after the unanimous passage of the Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 by the Florida House Judiciary Committee.
“I thank Representative Larry Metz and the members of the House Judiciary Committee for voting to better protect Floridians from the financially destructive consequences that can follow a data breach,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi. “The changes in this proposed law mandate quicker reporting when consumer information has been compromised and require personal information to be more securely stored.”
The proposed legislation would require businesses and governmental entities to provide proper notice of a breach to consumers and the Attorney General’s Office within 30 days. It would also require these covered entities to take reasonable measures to protect Floridians’ personal data and information.
