Attorney General Bondi Hails Historic Investment Advisory Council Appointment

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–Attorney General Pam Bondi voiced her support for the historic appointment of MaryEllen Elia to the State Board of Administration Investment Advisory Council. Elia is the first Superintendent in Florida’s history to be appointed to the Council. Attorney General Bondi recommended Elia's appointment to the Council based on her outstanding performance in her current role as Chief Executive and Superintendent of the nation's eighth largest school district. Elia brings a unique perspective to the Council as she is a member of the public service community and will be an invested watchdog on behalf of all public employee stakeholders. Attorney General Bondi's recommendation was accepted by the State Board of Administration Trustees, who collectively make appointments to the IAC.

"MaryEllen Elia will without a doubt bring valuable experience, trusted judgment, and a unique perspective to Florida's Investment Advisory Council. Educators make up a large portion of Florida’s Retirement System, and her appointment will provide a representative voice to the beneficiaries of the retirement fund,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I am grateful to my fellow trustees of the State Board of Administration for considering and accepting my recommendation of MaryEllen and making her the newest appointee to the IAC board.”

Elia is the Superintendent and Chief Executive of Hillsborough County Public Schools, which employs 24,000 people and serves 193,000 students. In that capacity, she oversees a multi-billion dollar operating budget. Additionally, Elia served as a member and as chair of the Participant Local Government Advisory Council.
