The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office’s City-County Investigative Bureau and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration concluded the investigation into the Central Florida heroin trafficking organization with the arrest of Smith in May 2016. The investigation revealed that Smith obtained heroin in South Florida and transported the heroin to Central Florida to distribute to a heroin dealer in the Sanford area of Seminole County.
The Honorable Donna L. McIntosh, Circuit Judge for the 18th Judicial Circuit, sentenced Smith to 20 years in prison. In addition to the lengthy prison sentence, Smith received a $100,000 fine. The Attorney General’s Statewide Prosecutors David Gillespie and Mary Sammon prosecuted the case.
