Attorney General Bondi Announces Temporary Injunction and Asset Freeze Against Florida Center of Corporations
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–Attorney General Pam Bondi today announced that her office has obtained a temporary injunction and asset freeze against Florida Center of Corporations for alleged unfair and deceptive practices. The company and its owner, Thomas H. Fred Jr., allegedly deceived companies by sending them letters giving the impression that they had to pay additional fees to become corporations when, in fact, they were already corporations under the Florida Department of State’s Division of Corporations. According to Attorney General Bondi’s lawsuit, since February 2013, more than 12,000 Florida businesses have paid fees to the Center in response to these deceptive mailings.
“My office is committed to protecting Florida’s businesses, and this injunction and asset freeze bars the company from engaging in any misconduct that could hurt our state’s business community,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The temporary injunction bars the company and its owner from engaging in any activity that could be interpreted to be activities of a government agency. The temporary injunction and asset freeze were obtained against Florida Center of Corporations and Thomas H. Fred Jr.
