Attorney General Pam Bondi and Other Attorneys General Call on FDA to Reconsider Approval of Potent Hydrocodone Drug or to Require Reformulation of Drug
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway led attorneys general throughout the country in requesting that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration either reconsider its approval of a potent hydrocodone drug, Zohydro, or to set a rigorous timeline for the drug to be reformulated.
“Zohydro ER has the potential to exacerbate the already deadly prescription drug abuse epidemic that our nation is facing. This drug is five to ten times more potent than traditional hydrocodone products, and the FDA must either reconsider its approval of the drug or implement an aggressive timeline for the reformulation of the drug to include abuse-deterrent properties,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Attorney General Bondi has been dedicated to stopping prescription drug abuse in Florida. Over the past two years, the multi-faceted approach to end prescription drug abuse has resulted in the following:
· A 52 percent decline in the number of oxycodone deaths;
· A 23 percent decline in hydrocodone deaths; and
· A 23 percent decline in prescription drug deaths.
