Florida Man Arrested for Exploiting Elderly Family Member
Tallahassee, Fla.—Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, with the assistance of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, today arrested a Santa Rosa County resident for exploitation. According to the investigation, Marcus Dwayne Causey, 32, used more than $3,000 of private funds of an elderly family member hospitalized at the time.
Causey is charged with one count of exploitation, a third-degree felony. If convicted, Causey faces up to five years in prison and $5000 in fines. The State Attorney’s Office for the First Judicial Circuit will prosecute this case.
The Attorney General's MFCU investigates allegations of patient abuse, neglect, and exploitation in facilities receiving payments under the Medicaid program. Additionally, the MFCU investigates and prosecutes providers that intentionally defraud the state's Medicaid program through fraudulent billing practices. Medicaid fraud essentially steals from Florida's taxpayers. From Jan. 2011 to the present, Attorney General Bondi's MFCU has obtained more than $500 million in settlements and judgments.
