Elena Spottswood, of Key West, is a homemaker and community activist. A native of Havana, Cuba, Elena and her family fled Cuba following Fidel Castro’s takeover, arriving in Miami in 1961. Since moving to Key West in 1992, Elena has been dedicated to the improvement of her community. Elena serves on the Boards of Directors of the San Carlos Institute and Be the Change Florida Keys. Elena has served on the boards of the PACE School for Girls, the Florida Keys Community College, and Safeport, an organization to help substance abuse recovering families. She presided over the Founding Board of the Key West Symphony Orchestra, and Elena served as a member of the Parish Council of the Basilica of St. Mary, Star of the Sea.
Elena received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Florida International University and worked as a legal secretary in a private law firm for ten years. Elena and her husband, Robert, reside in Key West where they raised their two sons and two daughters.
