Attorney General Pam Bondi Praises House of Representatives’ Judiciary Committee for Unanimously Passing a Bill Banning Six Additional Synthetic Drugs
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –Attorney General Pam Bondi today praised the House Judiciary Committee for unanimously passing the Controlled Substances Bill, House Bill 697. This legislative proposal would add six additional substances to Schedule I of controlled substances, making it a third-degree felony for an individual to “sell, manufacture, or deliver, or possess with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver" these dangerous drugs. Additionally, House Bill 697 adds three extremely lethal synthetic compounds, which are commonly found in the street drug “molly,” to the trafficking statute. House Bill 697 is sponsored by Representative Clay Ingram. The Senate companion bill, Senate Bill 780, is sponsored by Senator Rob Bradley.
“I thank the House Judiciary Committee for passing this bill, which will ban six new synthetic drugs and undoubtedly prevent the loss of lives due to these dangerous substances,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi.
