TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Pam Bondi today announced the arrest of a Virginia man for a sexual battery in Florida that occurred almost 20 years ago. The arrest of Cornelious Florman, 51, is a result of a positive DNA match from a 1998 sexual assault kit recently tested as part of the state’s efforts to clear the backlog of unprocessed sexual assault kits.
On June 22, 1998, Florman approached the victim exiting a bar in Fort Myers and asked for a ride to the beach. During the drive, the defendant allegedly struck the victim and knocked her unconscious. The victim later woke up alone in a wooded area to discover someone sexually assaulted her.
Florman faces charges for sexual battery, kidnapping and carjacking. Florman is currently in custody at the Lee County Jail.
