TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Pam Bondi and Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis announced the conviction of a Winter Park Periodontist. A court found Dr. Steven Perelmuter guilty of submitting fraudulent claims and billing insurance companies for services rendered to patients. Through these fraudulently claims Dr. Perelmuter obtained more than $900,000 in reimbursements.
Throughout a seven-year period, Dr. Perelmuter obtained and used personal information from 51 individuals to fabricate dental claims. The investigation found that 17 of these individuals had never been patients of the doctor and the remaining victims were patients that were billed for services never provided. In total, Dr. Perelmuter attempted to claim an estimated $1.6 million between two different insurance providers.
Attorney General Bondi’s Office of Statewide Prosecution successfully prosecuted Dr. Perelmuter who is now sentenced to 45 days in jail with 10 years of probation. Dr. Perelmuter is also ordered to pay restitution. He paid $400,000 at the time of sentencing as well as making additional payments of more than $345,000 while on probation. The court also ordered Dr. Perelmuter to surrender his license to practice in the State of Florida.
