TALLAHASSEE, FL - Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced that a Gadsden County woman is in custody after she defrauded the Florida Medicaid Program out of more than $6,000. Tyesha Bradwell, a health technician at the Veteran Affairs outpatient clinic in Tallahassee, was arrested today by law enforcement officers with the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
Acting on an anonymous tip, investigators with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit discovered that Bradwell, 36, was billing the Medicaid program for respite care services she never provided. The investigation revealed that Bradwell also was fraudulently billing Medicaid for supposedly providing care on Sundays when the recipient was with her guardian. Respite care is a service that assists family members or care givers who care for an individual with a developmental disability.
Bradwell will be charged with one count of Medicaid fraud and one count of grand theft, both third-degree felonies. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The case will be prosecuted by the State Attorney’s Office for the Second Judicial Circuit.
