TALLAHASSEE, FL - Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced that a Washington County nurse has been taken into custody for abusing an elderly victim under her care. Cigi Serrevera Snell, a certified nursing assistant formerly employed by Signature Health Care Center of North Florida in Jackson County, surrendered to authorities at the Jackson County Jail early this morning.
Investigators with the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit began investigating Snell, 26, after receiving information from the Florida Department of Children and Families Adult Protective Services. The investigation revealed that Snell knowingly abused a 90-year old patient in her care by slapping the elderly woman across the face, causing the victim’s face to visibly redden. The Signature Health Care Center terminated Snell’s employment for her actions.
Snell is charged with one count of abuse of an elderly adult, a third-degree felony. If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. The case will be prosecuted by State Attorney’s Office for the 14th Judicial Circuit.
