TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement on the passage of the False Claims Act, Senate Bill 1494, in the Senate Rules Committee. This bill, sponsored by Senator John Thrasher, strengthens the Office of the Attorney General’s ability to protect taxpayers by enhancing its investigative and prosecutorial authority, including giving the office the power to issue subpoenas in non-Medicaid cases. Its companion, House Bill 935, is sponsored by Representative Dana Young.
“I applaud Senator Thrasher and the Senate Rules Committee for supporting this legislation that enhances my office’s ability to stop fraud against the government and ultimately protects taxpayers’ hard-earned money,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi.
