TALLAHASSEE, FL – Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced that a Polk County man has been arrested on multiple charges of possession of child pornography. Barry Lee Snyder, of Lakeland, was arrested today by law enforcement officers from the Attorney General’s CyberCrime Unit and Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd’s Office.
Investigators with the CyberCrime Unit discovered Snyder’s possession of child pornography during an undercover internet investigation that identified known images of child pornography and traced the files back to Snyder’s computer. A search warrant was executed at Snyder’s Lakeland home and his computer was seized. Snyder, 55, admitted to knowingly possessing the images identified during the undercover investigation, many of which appeared to be of children as young as four years old being sexually exploited or abused. Investigators seized his computer and other equipment to undergo additional forensic analysis.
Snyder, who is self-employed, was taken into custody at the scene and is being held at the Polk County Jail. He faces ten counts of possession of child pornography including an enhancement under the CyberCrimes Against Children Act of 2007 that, if convicted, could increase his total sentence to a maximum of 60 years in prison. The CyberCrime Unit is a member of the Central Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, coordinated by Sheriff Judd’s Office.
