TALLAHASSEE, FL – Attorney General Bill McCollum and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Commissioner Gerald Bailey today announced that a Hillsborough County computer programmer has been arrested for possession of hundreds of images of child pornography. Kenneth Scott Courtney was arrested today after a tip led law enforcement officers to question Courtney about his alleged collection of images. The arrest was made by FDLE with assistance from the Attorney General’s CyberCrime Unit.
Courtney, 37, permitted law enforcement officers to preview his computer at his Riverview home. Investigators determined there were at least 500 images of child pornography on the computer, some of which were of children appearing no older than three years of age. Courtney admitted he knowingly possessed the images located on his computer. He was immediately taken into custody.
Courtney is being booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. He will initially be charged with 500 counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony which could be enhanced to a second-degree felony under the CyberCrimes Against Children Act of 2007. Courtney will be prosecuted by the State Attorney’s Office for the 13th Judicial Circuit and additional charges could be added at a later date.
