TALLAHASSEE, FL - Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced a Charlotte County man has been taken into custody on charges he sexually solicited a 14-year old girl. Adam Nelson Norsell, of Punta Gorda, made plans to meet the child for a sexual encounter but was apprehended by members of the Attorney General's Tampa CyberCrime Task Force. The Bradenton Police Department led the operation, with assistance from the CyberCrime Unit and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a Task Force member. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Highway Patrol also assisted with the arrest.
Norsell, 24, had been chatting online with a 14-year old child who notified a parent when the chats became sexual in content. The parent contacted the Bradenton Police Department and a law enforcement member of the CyberCrime Task Force took over the chats. At the time of the arrest, Norsell had in his possession a poem for the child titled “Forbidden.”
Norsell will be charged with one count of solicitation of a minor via computer, a third-degree felony, and one count traveling to meet a minor, a second-degree felony under the CyberCrimes Against Children Act of 2007. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison, and additional charges could follow.
The Attorney General’s Tampa CyberCrime Task Force involves partnership of law enforcement agencies working together to prevent the sexual solicitation and exploitation of children. The Task Force celebrates its one-year anniversary on July 2 and includes 12 agencies.
