TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement on the unanimous passage of the False Claims Act, House Bill 935, in the House Civil Justice Subcommittee. This bill strengthens the Office of the Attorney General’s ability to protect taxpayers by enhancing its investigative and prosecutorial authority, including giving the office the power to issue subpoenas in non-Medicaid cases. House Bill 935 is sponsored by Representative Dana Young, and the Senate companion, Senate Bill 1494, is sponsored by Senator John Thrasher.
“This legislation allows my office to better protect taxpayers’ hard-earned money by stopping unscrupulous individuals and companies that seek to steal money from the state of Florida,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I thank Representative Young for sponsoring this bill and appreciate the House Civil Justice Subcommittee’s support for safeguarding Florida’s taxpayers.”
