Attorney General Recognizes Commencement of Black History Month

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Attorney General Bill McCollum today issued the following statement on the commencement of Black History Month:

"African Americans have played a pivotal role in shaping the cultural, social and economic framework of the Sunshine State. As we celebrate Black History Month and the men and women who have transformed our country, I encourage every Floridian to reflect on the tremendous contributions African Americans have made to our state and nation.

"Black History Month is an opportunity to look not just to the past, but also to the future. As we celebrate Florida's diversity, we must rededicate ourselves to ensuring every single child -- regardless of race or socioeconomic background -- has the educational and economic opportunities to pursue the American Dream."
