TALLAHASSEE, FL – Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced that a Pasco County man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for trafficking Oxycodone. Christopher Michael Scott must also pay $1 million in fines for trafficking large amounts of Oxycodone by using fraudulent prescriptions and false identities. He was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.
Scott, 24, was able to obtain the Oxycodone from numerous pharmacies in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties, paying cash each time for amounts over 28 grams. The quantities varied, but were usually around 250 pills per prescription. He continued obtaining large amounts of Oxycodone over the course of a year before he was arrested in October 2008 while picking up a fraudulent prescription. When questioned, Scott admitted he knew neither the person whose name he was using to fill the prescriptions nor the doctor from whom he was supposedly getting the prescription. The investigation was conducted by the Tampa Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Scott pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking in Oxycodone over 28 grams and two counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. He was sentenced to the minimum mandatory term of 25 years for the trafficking counts and five years for each of the fraud charges, to be served concurrently. In addition to the $1 million in fines, he must also reimburse the state for the cost of prosecution. The sentence was handed down today by Judge Gregory Holder of the 13th Judicial Circuit.
