Organized Retail Theft Bill Passes House of Representatives and Senate Appropriations Committee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement on the passage of the Organized Retail Theft Bill, House Bill 1173, in the Florida House of Representatives and the passage of its companion, Senate Bill 1404, in the Senate Appropriations Committee. House Bill 1173 is sponsored by Representative Ross Spano, and Senate Bill 1404 is sponsored by Senator Kelli Stargel. The legislation provides prosecutors and law enforcement with the tools needed to properly prosecute individuals and hold them accountable for organized retail theft.

“This important legislation will allow prosecutors and law enforcement to better crack down on organized retail theft, a lucrative illegal enterprise that hurts Florida’s businesses and consumers,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I thank Representative Spano and the entire House of Representatives for passing this legislation. I also applaud Senator Stargel and the Senate Appropriations Committee for their support on this bill.”
