TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement on the passage of the False Claims Act, Senate Bill 1494, in the Senate Judiciary Committee. This bill, sponsored by Senator John Thrasher, strengthens the Office of the Attorney General’s ability to protect taxpayers by enhancing its investigative and prosecutorial authority, including giving the office the power to issue subpoenas in non-Medicaid cases. Its companion bill, House Bill 935, is sponsored by Representative Dana Young.
“Florida’s False Claims Act has remained relatively unchanged for nearly two decades, and this legislation is an essential update that will prevent fraud against the government and protect taxpayer dollars,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I thank Senator Thrasher and the Senate Judiciary Committee for their support of this bill.”
