TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement on the passage of the Organized Retail Theft Bill, House Bill 1173, in the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee. Its companion bill, Senate Bill Senate Bill 1404, is sponsored by Senator Kelli Stargel.
“The National Retail Federation estimates that retailers lose more than $30 billion per year to retail theft, and this legislation gives law enforcement officials and prosecutors the tools needed to arrest and prosecute individuals who commit this illegal activity,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. “This legislation protects consumers and businesses, and I am pleased that Representative Spano and the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee have advanced this essential legislation.”
