Re: Motions to Intervene in Challenges to Voter-Approved Constitutional Amendment Defining Marriage

The Office of the Attorney General today filed motions to intervene in two challenges to the voter-approved constitutional amendment defining marriage. This action will ensure that the courts have the benefit of legal arguments defending the constitutional marriage provision approved by Florida voters in 2008. The interventions also further a coordinated response to related challenges pending in courts throughout the state. The cases are as follows: Pareto v. Ruvin, Case No. 2014-1661-CA-01 (11th Judicial Circuit, Miami-Dade County) and Huntsman v. Heavlin, Case No. 2014-CA-0305-K (16th Judicial Circuit, Monroe County).
