Former Pharmacy Owner Sentenced for Defrauding Medicaid Out of Over $1.7 Million

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced a former Miami pharmacist was sentenced in Miami-Dade County for defrauding the Florida Medicaid program out of over $1.7 million. Victor O. Osagie, owner of Viko Drug Store in Miami, was convicted in May 2009, of fraudulently billing the Medicaid program for prescription drugs never purchased or delivered to Medicaid recipients.

Osagie, 53, was sentenced on one count of grand theft, a first-degree felony and one count of Medicaid fraud, a third-degree felony. He received a total of 10 years in prison which will run concurrently with a drug trafficking sentence he is currently serving. Osagie will also be responsible for restitution in the amount of $1.7 million. The case was prosecuted by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit through the State Attorney’s Office for the 11th Judicial Circuit.
