TALLAHASSEE, FL – Attorney General Bill McCollum today issued the following statement:
“In November, I sent letters to the largest banks in Florida requesting fair and efficient assistance for consumers participating in the loan modification process. I have now asked Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo to assist homeowners at my upcoming housing crisis community forum in Miami, this Saturday, March 13th.
“I requested the assistance of these banks after hearing from hundreds of homeowners from across the state about their frustrations while attempting to save their homes or modify the terms of their mortgage. This is the first time we have hosted on-site loan counseling from bank representatives, and I am thrilled they are joining us to help Floridians in their time of need.
“Together, the three banks will be sending 25-30 representatives who will offer personal assistance to those who are seeking loan modifications and other mortgage-related guidance. I look forward to this event and I am excited to make these services available to Floridians during these crucial economic times.”
Homeowners should bring the following items to the forum to maximize their ability to obtain assistance:
- Mortgage loan number
- Proof of employment, such as a recent payroll check stub
- Bank account statement
- Income tax returns and W2
- Driver’s license or picture ID
