TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement on the passage of the Military Protection Act, House Bill 1223 and Senate Bill 716. House Bill 1223, sponsored by Representative James Grant, was heard in the House Civil Justice Subcommittee, and Senate Bill 716, sponsored by Senator Wilton Simpson, was heard in the Senate Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee. This legislation deters individuals from preying on Florida’s military members and their families by enhancing penalties for offenses under the Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
“Florida has the eighth largest active military population in the country, and we owe it to our military members and their families to protect them from scams specifically targeted at them,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I am pleased that Representative Grant, Senator Simpson, the House Civil Justice Subcommittee, and the Senate Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee have joined me in recognizing the importance of this legislation.”
