The Office of Statewide Prosecution is dedicated to prosecuting gang members and keeping these violent criminals off of our streets. This week, a SUR-13 gang member, who was prosecuted by State Attorney Earl Moreland’s Office and the Office of Statewide Prosecution, was sentenced to life in prison. Stopping gang activity in Florida requires a collaborative effort, and I’m grateful to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and State Attorney Earl Moreland’s Office for their work on this case.
Thanks to this multi-agency effort, Daniel “Boom” Robledo, 26, was sentenced to life in prison for last year’s Second Degree Murder of a Manatee County man. Robledo was convicted in March of gunning down Elvis Ruiz, 27, while Ruiz was trying to stop a fight. In addition, Robledo is charged with Racketeering and three counts of Armed Robbery. He is scheduled to stand trial on those charges in November. This man is the fourth SUR-13 gang member sentenced to prison in recent months.
In closing, I ask that you join me this Memorial Day in remembering and honoring the courageous men and women who sacrificed their lives so that we could enjoy our freedom. While we enjoy this long holiday weekend, we will remember those who dedicated their lives to military service and who died to keep our nation the greatest in the world. If you see a man or woman in uniform, be sure to thank them for all that they do to protect us and our liberty.
