Protecting FloridiansFHP Removes Dangerous Drugs From Florida Highways
Recently, teams from the Florida Highway Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Criminal Interdiction Unit hosted a week-long Commercial Motor Vehicle Drug Interdiction Assistance Program with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. The program trains law enforcement on how to detect and apprehend transporters and/or users of illicit contraband engaged in commercial vehicle operations on Florida’s roadways. The program concluded with Operation Ground Up, an enforcement detail in the Ft. Myers region, which resulted in multiple drug arrests and seizures.
“This well-executed operation seized massive quantities of dangerous drugs before they could be sold on our streets and poison our citizens,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi. “Our nation is battling a national opioid epidemic, and I want to thank FHP, FDLE, DEA and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office for this coordinated effort to stop the influx of deadly drugs into Florida.” More.
Former Home Healthcare Employee Arrested for Medicaid Fraud
Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Daytona Police Department arrested a Flagler County resident for more than $2,000 in Medicaid fraud. Ruth Sylvester Marsh, 56, is a former provider of homemaker and in home support services. According to the MFCU investigation, Marsh submitted service logs for services not provided. Marsh allegedly billed for services performed at times the recipient traveled out of town or was with family. Additionally, Marsh’s service logs reflect some of the same dates and times Marsh worked at a school as a teacher’s aide. More.

Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier is encouraging consumers to have flood insurance protection in place for their homes and businesses prior to the start of this year’s hurricane season. A basic homeowners insurance policy does not provide coverage for flooding.
