The death of Trayvon Martin both saddens and troubles me. There cannot be any questions surrounding the circumstances of this young man’s death, and I have every confidence in the Department of Justice and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that a thorough investigation will be conducted.

Yesterday, Governor Scott and I announced the appointment of Angela B. Corey as the newly Assigned State Attorney in the investigation. I know State Attorney Corey well. She is an experienced and aggressive prosecutor.

This announcement came after the Governor and I reached out to State Attorney Norman Wolfinger. After the conversation, Wolfinger chose to turn the investigation over to another state attorney.

I will remain committed to ensuring that questions are answered.
