Attorney General Bondi's Weekly Briefing

Florida’s flourishing and strong economy is supported by the more than three million jobs created by small businesses. Small business owners are some of the hardest working men and women in our state. They work day in and day out to not only support their families, but millions of other Florida families. As small businesses continue to open and grow, so do the risks they face.

Just this week, I joined the FTC in announcing the results of Operation Main Street. This nationwide operation focused on stopping scams targeting small businesses across the country and in Florida. My office took action against several corporations including; Florida Corporate Filing Services, GNA Housekeeping, LLC, United Business Services, Inc., and US Yellow for deceiving small businesses. Courts found that these corporations misrepresented themselves as members of the government and overcharged for documents or services that are optional, but continued to be misrepresented by the defendants as mandatory.

Small businesses are too often targets of scams. Scammers will mail phony invoices for items never ordered, use prizes as an incentive to sell overpriced office needs, falsely claim to be from a government agency, send fake invoices and email phony yellow pages advertisement renewal forms.

As a career prosecutor and your Attorney General, I will always strive to protect our amazing small businesses. Working with the dedicated professional at the FTC as well as other state and federal agencies, we will make sure they are protected.
