I'm Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum.

When economic times are tough, we often see a correlating increase in scams and people who are trying to take advantage of our citizens.

Over the past month, we have seen a significant increase in the number of consumer complaints reported to the Attorney General's Office. A lot of these complaints are from homeowners who are reporting companies who may be fraudulently offering mortgage loan modification services or foreclosure rescue opportunities.

Taking an up-front fee before providing any foreclosure rescue services is against the law. Consumers should continue to report scams to my fraud hotline at 1-866-966-7226.
